So, I feel pretty dumb for missing this one.  I love how the Lord surprises me with things like this from His living and active Word!  Read carefully. Emphasis is mine.

"The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded.  They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink.  So they quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water to drink."
Moses replied, "Why do you quarrel with me?  Why do you put the Lord to the test?"
But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses.  They said, `Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?'"
Then Moses cried out to the Lord, "What am I to do with these people?  They are almost ready to stone me."
The Lord answered Moses, `Walk on ahead of the people.  Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.  I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.  Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink."  So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.  And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, `Is the Lord among us or not?'"  Exodus 17:1-7

Here's Jesus talking with the Samaritan woman at the well:

"Jesus answered her, `If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."  John 4:10
"Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks that water I give him will never thirst.  Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."  John 4:13

And here is Jesus as He gave up His life on the cross.

"But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.  Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus' side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water."

From the Psalmist:

"The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer;  my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge."
Psalm 18:2

I never noticed how the rock that Moses was commanded to strike is such a symbol of the Messiah, from being struck in the presence of the leaders of Israel, to having water flow out, to what the water symbolizes - living water that gives eternal life to all who drink.

Drink only from Him.  All other sources of "water" only make you more thirsty.  No matter what they tell you.

We had a little get-together for Memorial Day.

Top grill chef around here - 40 hamburgers grilled

The beautiful, spacious table my husband made just days before the event

Doesn't look so spacious now, does it?  Especially when things like school buses also need a seat.

Kids table.  I may or may not own the child in the white t-shirt

The contrast is marked.  See this nice, dainty little girl with the good manners, boys?

Sadly, there were some casualties in the rush to get to the food.  Woody, ya just gotta be quick on the draw around here.

A sucker's unwrapped every second

This is what happens when I leave these two alone for any length of time.

Want one?  Too bad...they're mine!  Mine, mine, mine!!

Grocery shopping with 5 children is not my most favorite thing to do.  I'd rather get a cavity filled.  Without novocaine.  It would be a lot less painful.  They're just so out of control and then they feed off each other.  The babies take off their shoes and socks and scream at their brothers, Sam walks around like he's blind, getting in everyone's way, and of course the 5 of them are all over the cart, which makes it impossible for anyone to pass us in an aisle.

Today, we finally arrived at the check-out lane and they were checking out the candy that was available and undressing the mini plastic princesses in the cardboard boxes.  I was frantically trying to unload the cart before things - and by things I mean me -  got out of control.  Caleb started yelling, "Mama, mama, look at this!  This is so cool.  Look!  These say they'll give us 5 hours of energy!!"  I glanced at the package of batteries in his hand.  "Caleb, let's not waste money.  It's better spent on things we actually need."
