Noticed while reading in 1 Chronicles:
25:5
"All these were sons of Heman the king's seer. They were given him through the promises of God to exalt him. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters."
26:4-5
"Obed-Edom also had sons: [8 listed] (For God had blessed Obed-Edom.)
Interesting wording.
Somehow I think children were viewed differently "in those days".
What a line to give someone asking if all those children you have were "planned"!
"Oh, God chose to exalt and bless me. You can't really plan that!"

Right on, as usual. God gives and takes and He's worthy of our praise in every circumstance.
I wonder if there is a direct quantitative relationship of the blessing to the number of offspring. And, of course, children are not the only way God's blessing is bestowed - some folks also received a mega-dose of livestock.
Personally, I'd rather stick with raising human babies.
Our kids are special blessings in their own unique ways, but I don't even know where to start in measuring it. Would twelve kids be more of a blessing than four? It would certainly be different but how do we (or can we?) establish an equation?
What about those proverbs that mention gray hair as the crown of the aged? I suppose we also need to accept that natural part of life as a blessing, especially since it often gets blamed on the earlier blessings.
I do find it pretty humorous when 80+ year old women (and men!) color their hair. Wear it proudly! Of course, maybe I'll feel differently when I'm to that point.
